Infrastructure

There is a pressing need to maintain and develop more cultural organizations in Jerusalem.  The city has for long been subjected to rules, regulations, and restrictive Israeli occupation measures, which have and continue to, impede construction and natural growth and future isolate the city. Moreover, cultural and educational establishments such as schools and sports clubs are no longer appropriate for their purposes, and many cultural and educational establishments operate in buildings originally designed for other purposes.

To support the steadfastness of Jerusalem residents who have tirelessly defended the capital and its Arab identity, the Administrative Council of Jerusalem Capital of Arab Culture 2009, in consultation with various sector representatives and based on results of field research, has laid out a list of 11 projects to support, as follows:

  1. The rehabilitation of cultural and sports facilities in Jerusalem schools, such as courts, halls, theatres, etc.

  2. The renovation and rehabilitation of hotels (through loans that can be paid back in services and/or guarantees)

  3. The rehabilitation and development of public theatres

  4. The rehabilitation and development of museums

  5. The rehabilitation and development of libraries, blueprint centers, etc.

  6. The rehabilitation and development of community clubs.

  7. The rehabilitation of community cultural centers.

  8. The purchase and rehabilitation of Arab houses.

  9. The support of private-sector projects: cultural, social, and media-based

  10. The decoration of the city and its public markets.

  11. Future projects for organizations in Jerusalem.

A list of infrastructure projects has been proposed based on the priority needs and in harmony with proposed cultural events for Jerusalem 2009.
