The march of bikers launched today on Wednesday morning 14.10.2009 from Jenin city in the west bank. The group of bikers consists of 40 riders from Palestine and foreign countries. This march comes to draw the attention of the international and humanitarian institutions to the current circumstances that deprive Palestinians from their basic necessities of life guaranteed by international and humanitarian laws.
The journey will pass through a number of Palestinian villages and refugee camps in Jenin, Nablus, Qalqilia and then to Bil‘in, Ramallah, and it ends in Jerusalem. This trip will include visits to the provinces to experience the extremely difficult situation Palestinians live under in refugee camps and areas near the apartheid wall. Moreover, international biker’s solidarity will embrace the situation of Palestinian prisoners’ families in the Israeli prisons.
The head of The Peace Cycle team, which consists of 17 riders (Canada, Switzerland, Britain and Italy), ensured that the team will pass on the situation of Palestinians particularly difficult conditions faced by Palestinian refugees, to their home countries in order to raise the awareness of the Palestinian cause. A British 8 year’s old cycler illustrated her Palestinian solidarity by attending a school day in Jenin refugee camp’s elementary school.
In their trip the bikers will distribute posters and stickers for Jerusalem capital of Arab Culture 2009 as well as the calendar of cultural events of this celebration.
